Dinner & a (Vampire!) Movie

Good morning!!!!! :D

I’m SO excited for Thanksgiving vacation!! I’m officially DONE with work for the day, and my husband should be home in just a few hours (I love half-days at work)!! I’m hoping we’ll get some Christmas decorations up today or tomorrow, and maybe even get some early shopping done this afternoon! I really don’t want to fight the crowds on Black Friday… though, I seem to say that every year, and I always end up doing it anyway! (and always kicking myself for it as I fight for a parking spot!)

To celebrate our almost-the-holidays evening last night, the husband and I quickly had dinner at home, then booked it to the movie theater to finally see New Moon!

I have never read any of the Twilight series, but my husband and I will pretty much see any movie that comes out in the theater. (we are lucky enough to get into all AMC Theaters for free– we’re spoiled!!) :D   We saw the first movie, so obviously, we had to see the second one, too! Personally, I thought this movie dragged a bit… there were way too many scenes of Bella getting lost and confused in the woods! Also, I don’t really get the whole Jacob thing at all– I didn’t see any romantic chemistry there! Obviously, Edward is the way to go. :)   All in all, I did enjoy the movie. My husband, on the other hand, did NOT! I think he almost spit out his mocha during a couple scenes, and I caught him checking the time A LOT! Oh, well.

To back up a bit… dinner:

The husband helped himself a heaping plate of Dawsonsgiving leftovers, and noticed it’s pretty weird that he’s been eating Thanksgiving-style leftovers two days BEFORE Thanksgiving! So basically, he’s going to be living off of Thanksgiving leftovers for well over a week when it’s all said and done. :D

My dinner was pretty boring:

Steamed broccoli and zucchini topped with organic marinara.

And some not-so-pretty looking butternut squash fries:

My last attempt with butternut fries was a bit of a failure, so this time, I tried reducing the oven temperature to 400 degrees, and only baked them for 20 minutes. (because we were in a rush to catch our movie!) These were pretty soggy fries… definitely cooked through, but NOT crispy. I think if I had more time, I would have left them in the oven another 10-20 minutes, until they started to brown. I also would have used more cooking spray on the bottom of my baking sheet! These suckers STUCK to my pan!

Even though they look a little messy, they still tasted AWESOME! I will figure out how to make them better, though. ;)

I was planning on running this afternoon, but my foot wasn’t quite feeling up to par when I started, so I ended up doing an impromptu circuit workout in my little apartment gym:

10 minutes elliptical intervals
25 Chest presses with 10lb weights (2 sets)
20 Chest flies with 5 lb weight (2 sets)
50 squats using body weight (2 sets)
60 jumping jacks
Alternating sets of:
20 seconds of regular plank
5 push ups
10 seconds of side plank
(repeat 3 times)
10 burpies
50 sumo squats (2 sets)
60 jumping jacks
20 reps Overhead Press w/ 5 lb weights
20 reps W-V’s with 5 lb weights
50 bicycle crunches
10 minutes run/walking on treadmill
5 minute cool down

The whole thing took about 45 minutes, plus stretching. My foot is feeling better today, so I’m going to try doing a slow run/walk this afternoon and see how it goes. If it hurts, I’ll stop! I don’t want to make this a permanent injury…

Post-workout, I had a perfect recovery snack:

Sliced nanner and almond butter, sprinkled with cinnamon. Yum yum. :)

I’m off to do some Thanksgiving grocery shopping, hopefully it’s early enough to beat the after-work rush later in the day!!

And in the spirit of Thanksgiving: Make sure you check out Katie’s Operation Chocolate-Covered-Kindness!!! It’s SO easy to help– just click around her blog! Maybe you need the recipe for a Thanksgiving pumpkin pie baby??
