Hi friends! Happy hump day!!
I had an EARLY morning after staying up LATE last night– so it’s been a little rough for me so far. I started my day with some hot water with lemon:
Drinking hot water with fresh lemon helps flush out toxins from your system. Lemons, commonly known for being acidic, are actually highly alkalizing in the body! After a couple glasses of champagne, and being consumed in a fog second-hand smoke (gross!) last night, I thought my body could use a little alkalinity boost.
Speaking of last night…
The party was great! We were invited to a private Oscar party honoring the movie, Inglorious Basterds. (A great movie, by the way!! I loved it!) There was fun music, tasty food and drink, and quite a few celebrities in attendence! In fact, we walked into the party right in front of Cher! A few other memorable spottings included Anne Hathaway, Aaron Eckhart, Ryan Gosling, Michael Keaton, Robert Duvall, Quinton Terentino, Eli Roth, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgard, Neve Campbell, and Melanie Griffith. Pretty good company, huh? I even ran into a fellow blogger, Kimberly! What a small world!
*Check out these pictures from the the party!
All that being said, we were a little disappointed that more of the cast didn’t show up. Last year, we were invited to the Oscar party for Slumdog Millionaire, and it was quite honestly the most surreal event I’ve ever been to in my life! I’ve never seen so many A-list celebrities packed into one house– let alone been shoulder-to-shoulder with them! I was more than a bit star-struck drinking wine next to Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore, while Dustin Hoffman was playing the piano! And the entire cast of Slumdog Millionaire attended the party last year, so it was just a bit disappointing that the party last night didn’t have a similar outcome.
Not that I’m complaining! I’m still pinching myself that we get invited to these things in the first place! That’s a nice perk of my husband’s job.
Of course, when we got home from the party we had to watch LOST before we went to bed– couldn’t risk seeing any spoilers on the internet before we watched it! I thought it was a pretty “blah” episode… I feel like the things we learned last night could have been incorporated into another episode pretty easily. But maybe that’s just me. I just want to make sure they cram as much story (and explanations!) into their last season as possible!!
I probably got about 5 hours of sleep after all that, so I woke up tired, cold and hungry! I was having oatmeal cravings again, but I decided to try a new “cereal” this morning: Quinoa!!
Since quinoa is actually a seed (which perhaps accounts for all the protein?), I thought it could still be considered a good combination with a dollop of almond butter on top.
I cooked 1/3 cup quinoa with 2/3 cup water, brought to a boil, then covered and let simmer for 10 minutes. I mixed in cinnamon, stevia, and topped with almond butter. YUM! I love how light I feel after this meal– definitely an improvement over traditional oats!
Now I’m drinking my new morning drink of choice:
Green tea! I think I may have finally kicked my coffee habit! I’m not getting anymore withdrawal headaches, and I don’t even miss my morning coffee! That’s not to say I won’t have a sip or two of coffee on occassion, but I don’t feel the “need” for it anymore. Wahoo!! Eventually, I’d like to cut out caffeine all together– but for now, it’s baby steps.
Alright, I’m off to do some work. I’ve got an hour-long training run this afternoon, then I have the responsibility of picking out a movie for “Bad Movie Monday Wednesday” (we had to move it this week because of the KU game on Monday night). Hopefully I’ll find a movie as bad as the one we watched last week! Oh, the pressure!!
Hope you all have a lovely Wednesday!

Hi! I saw your comment over at IHearWellness and thought I would check out your blog (which is great by the way!). You mentioned that your considering trying out the raw diet again? I’ve played around with it a couple times and really liked how it made me feel. I was thinking that if I try it again, having someone else who is really into it would be a huge help. So you know, if/when you feel like giving it a try, I may go ahead and join you for a bit.
Quinoa for breakfast? That actually seems like a great idea and it has more protein than oats too so I can see it being more filling. Hmm..
Good job on kicking the coffee addiction! I keep myself from drinking it because I know how addicting it can be. Right now I’m trying to get my mom to kick the habit and focus more on tea instead.
