Hi everyone! Happy Thursday night!
Today’s been a pretty good day, but I’ve gotten very used to some 3:00 pm CRAVINGS for sweets!! I’ve realized that 3:00 pm is usually when I’m ready for a snack, so I think that’s when I’m the most weak-willed! Fortunately, eating something healthy has helped keep those cravings at bay!
Juice #2 to the rescue:
Same combo as this morning: Romaine, kale, celery, carrots, beet, apple and lemon. Pretty tasty– except for that hint of celery. Ick!
After my juice, I did a bit of light house-cleaning, to let my juice “digest,” then I headed down to the gym for my scheduled training run. I had a 60-minute run planned, and everything was going great when I got started– my heart rate was good, and I had tons of energy for my run. Then, a wrench got thrown into the program– my right hamstring muscle started cramping SO BADLY that I couldn’t take another step! I immediately slowed down to a moderate walk, and realized that even THAT STILL HURT! So, I cooled down at an incredibly SLOW pace, and headed back up to my apartment feeling totally defeated. ![]()
I immediately got to work with my personal masseuse:
My trusty foam roller! I rolled, and rolled some more– paying lots of attention to my hamstring muscle, then did all the stretches I could think of. I also spent some quality time with my heating pad. Hopefully, all of this will help me recover quickly! I really don’t want to disrupt my LONG RUN this weekend! I’ve never had something like this happen before, so I don’t know if it’ll still bug me in a day or two, or not! Anyone have any experience with this? I’m kinda scared of running 6 miles away from my house, only to experience another cramp like this and be stranded! I’d literally need someone to drive and pick me up! Hopefully, I’ve got nothing to worry about, and I’ll be fine by Saturday. Positive thinking, right?
After my run, I was STARVING! I polished off a half a bag of baby carrots, then dove into my favorite salad:
You know, I don’t think I’ll EVER get sick of this salad! I crave it, and enjoy every bite! I think it’s ALL about my favorite dressing, paired with the goat cheese and crunchy bell peppers. Pure bliss!!
I followed my salad with a heaping portion of Pizza Creamed Spinach:
This was surprisingly rich and filling!
My husband got back from his workout pretty late tonight, and I was really jealous of his post-workout smoothie, so I decided to whip up something nice and refreshing for myself, too!
Detox-friendly lemonade! I simply juiced a whole lemon, added a few drops of liquid stevia, and filled the rest of my glass with pure water and ice! It totally hit the spot, and makes a perfect summer drink! You’ll be seeing this again for sure.
Alright, I’m off to get some rest. I’m hoping to wake up with a totally healed hamstring muscle!! *crossing my fingers*
Goodnight!

Seeing all of your yummy juices really makes me want a juicer!
Hey there! I clicked over from your comment on the blog… love foam rollers. They hurt so good. I hope your leg feels better!! Eating more potassium helped stop terrible cramps I used to get when I was doing crew (I just clicked over here though so no idea what you eat, just a thought!). And I’ve heard from friends that epsom salt baths are helpful for sore, cramped muscles because of the magnesium. What marathon are you doing?
I’m crossing my fingers for you too! Having things like that happen out of the blue is so disappointing. Hopefully you’re feeling all better for your long run.
hey! where did you get those glass straws? i love them!
first of all, good for you for figuring out (i’m guessing through your journaling) that 3:00 is your cravy time and finding a good way to deal with it.
second, use ICE, not heat on a new injury!! elevate and ice it.
Whenever I get unexpected cramps it usually means I’m a little calcium deficient. Those muscles really burn through it. I’ve got a supplement I know I can depend on my body to absorb, but maybe some extra greens or seeds? You already use a lot but maybe this cleanse has changed your balance in some way your body needs to adjust to. Great blog!
I guess my comment didn’t save –hope you don’t see this twice later. Whenever I get a muscle cramp it usually means I’m low on calcium. I love the Standard Process calcium for me, but maybe you could add some extra greens or seeds? With this cleanse it probably changed up your body chemistry a little. Thanks for a great blog –i read most days
I definitely second the comment about bananas – yes, I’ve heard there may not be tons of merit to it, but all that I know is once I started eating bananas on the reg, my oh-so-frequent muscle cramps and middle of the night charlie horses suddenly disappeared, yet my mileage went way up. Good luck on your long run this week and stay positive!
The detox lemonade looks perfect for a hot sunny day!
Sorry to hear about your leg crap, just give it rest and stretch it. Hopefully it will be better the next time you run, take your next run easy though!
