Here comes the weekend!

Hi friends! Happy almost-Friday!!

I’ve had such a hard time waking up this week! (The fact that we have the most comfortable bed on the planet doesn’t help matters…) But last night, I forced myself to go to bed earlier than normal– and wouldn’t you know, this morning was WAY better! Go figure. Guess I should be trying to get more sleep every night, huh?

I know that sleep is SO important, but I’m often guilty of not getting enough during the week. It’s difficult when I work at 6am, and my husband doesn’t have to leave for work until 9! Since he gets to sleep in so much later than me, he usually likes to stay up until midnight or later, and it’s hard for me to go to bed before him! But I think I’m just going to have to work on that, because running on less than 8 hours of sleep makes me grouchy. :(

Of course, nothing can make me grouchy today, because my best friend, Sara, is coming to visit me this weekend!!

(taken at my rehearsal dinner– Sara was my Maid of Honor!) <3

She gets in tonight, and we’ll be driving down to San Diego on Saturday for the Rock n’ Roll Marathon. I’m SO excited!! I’m going to try to CRAM as much into this weekend as I can– lots of fun L.A. restaurants, hiking, shopping, and if that’s not enough, we’ll have plenty of time to chat on Sunday while we’re running!

I’ve been trying to eat plenty of complex carbs this week, to fuel my body for the race this weekend, so this morning I indulged in some Oat Bran in a Jar:

I had about a spoonful of almond butter left in the jar, so I figured I’d just use the jar as my bowl, rather than get another dish dirty!

Oat bran totally reminds me of Cream of Wheat, which I used to love as a kid!

Yasha’s a big fan of oat bran, too:

I’m such a sucker when my dog gives me cute, begging eyes– I hope I’m not this big of a push-over when I have kids someday! ;)

I’ve also been drinking Natural Calm the past couple of nights:

Which is supposed to help balance your body’s magnesium and calcium levels. I don’t want any muscle cramps!! Tonight will probably be my last night drinking this, though, because it also has a tendency to make you, um… “eliminate” easier– and I don’t want any bathroom problems during the race on Sunday! ;)

I’ve read that TWO days before a race is actually the fuel that matters– since your body may not actually assimilate all the nutrients you eat the day before the race– so hopefully tomorrow we’ll be eating lots of healthy stuff! I’m not too worried about it, because Sara likes to eat healthy most of the time, too! It’s so nice having friends who enjoy a healthy lifestyle!

Okay, I’ve got lots of cleaning and prepping to do before Sara gets here, so I better get to it!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

Reader Feedback: Do you live near your best friend? How did you meet? What do you enjoy doing together?

Sara and I actually went to high school together, but we didn’t meet until we went to the same college! She was my roommate for 3 years, and we had so much fun living together! Now, we live half-a-country away from each other ( :( ), but when we do get together, we can talk for HOURS over dinner and coffee! Oh, and we write each other mile-long emails almost every day!

That’s exciting your best friend is coming! My best friend and I met when we were on the same basketball team in middle school. She was actually the little sister of my bro’s best friend. She definitely doesn’t eat as clean as me, but I still love her.

That’s so exciting that you get to meet up with your best friend! One of my closest friends lives 3 hours away and although it’s not a lot, it’s still far enough away that we rarely see each other. I met her when she started dating my brother and although they are no longer dating, we are still super close. Drives my brother crazy but what can you do? :D

All of our best friends live across the US. We all met in High School and have been friends ever since. It is hard living so far apart, but we all have different lives now.

I love that photo with the dog – how funny is his face!!!

My best friend and I met the first class of our first day of Freshman year in uni – hard to believe it was four years ago! Our professors actually wound up calling us the twins because we did so much in tandem.
She lives about an hour away, and she just got married, so it’s harder to see her as much as I’d like. There was a whole year where we saw very little of each other, but we’re making more time to meet up for coffee or drinks.
