Hi friends! Happy FRIDAY!!!!
It’s been HOT here this week! I’m looking forward to being lazy this weekend and keeping as cool as possible– which is going to be pretty hard considering the A/C in our new apartment just doesn’t work that well! Apparently, the old building we live in has an ancient cooling system that runs off water chillers instead of freon– meaning our apartment just never really cools off, no matter how much we run the A/C! Last night, the thermostat said it was 85 degrees inside! Ouch. (Now we’re understanding why our rent is so cheap!)
Desperate to cool off, I made a trip to Target to buy another fan for our apartment last night– I was hoping some extra air circulation will help me sleep at night! I’m the type that likes to be COLD when I sleep, so you can imagine how miserable I’ve been lately… Unfortunately, everyone else in L.A. had the same idea as me! Target was totally SOLD OUT of fans! Argh. The trip wasn’t a total waste, though– I found a new strength training DVD on sale!
No More Trouble Zones! I remembered reading that Caitlin really liked this workout, and what I really like is that the workout is 40-minutes long– rather than the shorter 20-minute workouts I was used to on Jillian Michaels’s 30 Day Shred DVD. I tried it out today, and even though the first circuit was challenging for me (I haven’t done a strength workout in months!), I pushed through to the end and felt awesome! It feels good to have strength training back in my life. ![]()
It felt almost like I was in a hot-yoga room while doing my workout, too:
I just kept reminding myself that my muscles would be warmer and more flexible in the heat!
Since my days have been so HOT, I’ve been trying to keep my meals COOL!! I had a chilly green orange juice this morning:
Not your typical orange juice, though!
My juice this morning was filled with a head of romaine, 5 carrots, 1/2 cucumber, and 1/2 lemon. I kinda missed my kale (haven’t made it to Whole Foods yet to buy any!), but this combo was alright…
And when lunch time rolled around, all I wanted was a chilly smoothie!! I got an exciting delivery from the people at Almond Breeze yesterday, though it turned out a bit messier than I had hoped. When the mail man delivered the box, we both couldn’t help but notice it was DRIPPING! A lot!!! I immediately ran it over to the sink, then proceeded to open it from there:
What was the culprit behind all the dripping?
The bottom of this container BURST in the box! Bummer… I was really looking forward to trying the original flavor! Luckily, there was also a Chocolate flavor in the box, and it was still in tact! Whew!
What I love about this chocolate flavor, is that it’s UNSWEETENED! I decided to try my sample in my smoothie this afternoon, and even though I almost never drink a glass of almond milk on it’s own, I wanted to taste this chocolate flavor on it’s own before adding it to my smoothie.
It tasted just like chocolate milk– without any sweetness! I actually really liked it! I blended up a cup of Chocolate Almond Breeze, 2 cups of spinach, 1 cup frozen blueberries, and a frozen banana for a frozen, chocolaty treat– it was deeeeeelish!
Okay, I’ve got to run to Whole Foods to replenish my kale supply! Hope you all have a great night!!

and all that almond milk! YUM! Glad the choc was good–i havent tried the unsweetened yet.
I love Almond Breeze! It’s pretty much the only type of dairy alternative that I drink.
I bet that is such a yummy combo. I love chocolate milk.
I just found your blog, and you are adorable.
I also just started doing NMTZ this week, and I started the first two times without weights. That dvd is intense! But in a good way.
As for chocolate almond breeze, how bomb is it?! I switched to soy milk awhile ago and about 8 months ago to almond milk and it is SO MUCH BETTER than soy. I can actually drink almond milk straight, but soy?! I wouldn’t dare!
