Hazardous Hurdles

Good evening! How’s your Monday been so far?

Mine’s been great! I really love working from my office!! :D There’s only one con– I am tempted by the smell of freshly brewed coffee just feet from my office! Usually when I’m in the office, I just go ahead and give in to a cup of coffee every morning. One week isn’t going to make me “addicted,” and I love the flavor, warmth, and comfort of coffee! But, with my recent anxiety issues, I’m really not willing to risk drinking that much caffeine at the moment (especially not with the wedding coming up this weekend!). So, what’s a girl to do?

Enter, Starbucks DECAF:

Holy moly. The brewed decaf from Starbucks (not the “pour over” method that they sometimes do… which, in my opinion, tastes weak) is eerily close to the real thing! I was a happy-camper this morning. :D

I had to wake up REALLY early this morning–> I was going to go on a morning run before picking up my rental car at 7 a.m. (!!), but I realized at 5:30 a.m. there is NO trace of sunlight yet! I’m too much of a wimp to run in the PITCH BLACK by myself… so I hit the snooze button for 20 more minutes, then woke up for a rebounding workout instead! (love that I talked my mom into getting a rebounder last year!) ;)   I turned on my iPod and bounced to some fun music for 20 minutes, followed by what I could remember of my Physique 57 arm workout– I’ve done it so often, I think I have it memorized! It was such a nice way to start the morning!

I didn’t have time to make a green smoothie before leaving the house, so I grabbed a Larabar and a bag of raw almonds before running out the door. I always keep snacks in my office– because I’m a total grouch when I’m hungry!

I was soon ready for my Larabar when I got to work:

Mmm… I forgot how much I love the Lemon flavor!! (to be honest, I don’t think there’s a flavor I don’t like… well, besides the chocolate flavors! I definitely prefer the fruity ones!) I also ate my almonds, but was too hungry to take a picture. :D

It was weird driving home for my lunch break today– I am totally SPOILED by working from home and just walking to my kitchen when I’m hungry!

Less time didn’t stop me from having my “usual” though… I just had to whip it up faster!

Pudding mountain. ;)

I was happily fueled for the rest of my workday, and even felt like going for a run when I got home at 5:30– despite the hot & humid weather! I forgot how HUMID Kansas is! Another thing I forgot about Kansas? There’s always TONS of street construction during the summer! My regular running route was completely torn up! :(   No big deal, though. I used MapMyRun.com to find a new route! (love that site for planning runs!) I grabbed my iPod and Garmin, and was out the door! My run started off great– I was loving the random shuffle of music my iPod was choosing! (fact: I have Christmas music on my iPod, and I kinda like it when my shuffle picks it ANY time of the year!) :D

However, my run took a turn for the worse– my NEW route was under construction, too! AHHHH!!!  I was already 3 miles into the run, so turning around wasn’t really an option; it was too hot to run 6 miles! So, I made the executive decision to run on the grass, avoiding the torn up sidewalks and driveways the best I could.  It became quite the hurdle course! The street was torn up, the grass was torn up, and every driveway I came upon I had to literally LEAP over trenches in the ground. I can only imagine all the cars that were laughing at me as they drove by! Ha ha. As ridiculous as I looked, I finally got home in the shortest distance possible. Whew! I think I’ll be looking up a NEW route for tomorrow, though!

Dinner tonight was pretty familiar:

Goat cheese salads!

And some scrambled organic eggs:

I’ve decided it’s nearly impossible to take a “flattering” picture of scrambled eggs. ;) They tasted good, though!

Now my mom and I are settling in for the season finale of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.” I heard that Danielle isn’t going to be back next season, and after how BORING she was this season, I say “good riddance!” I felt like this season got awfully monotonous with her… who needs to see her complain about the same stuff to her “thugs” EVERY episode?! Boooooooring….

Okay, I’m off for the night! Sleep tight!

Reader Feedback: When you guys travel, do you workout? If so, what kind of workouts do you do? I almost always bring my running stuff, since you can pretty much run ANYWHERE, and occasionally I bring a workout DVD or two… this time I didn’t since my mom owns many of the same ones I do! (But I am kinda missing my Physique 57 dvd’s! Too bad my playground ball didn’t fit in my suitcase. :( )

Oh I WISH I could work from home…and go home to eat…I swear to God being at the office, I hate it so much that all I want to do is eat because I hate it there…it’s horrible. What’s your job?! …can you get me a gig? ;)

i had actually been having the same problems with coffee + anxiety… i realized that after i stopped having coffee, i was much less prone to panic, to be anxious, to be irritable, to have mood swings, etc. BUT i am going to italy in a couple weeks and i don’t want to miss out on italian espresso, so i have been slowly weaning myself back onto coffee with some decaf americanos… works great! i dont think i want to return to full fledged caffeine anytime soon, but i love the taste of coffee… and i ask for the americanos with less water so that they are very concentrated and dense, like coffee =)

Omg girl I would have freaked if my new route was messed up too!! I’m glad you didn’t get hurt doing all those hurdles :) I actually try really hard to workout on vacation. We usually are walking everywhere, so that helps. And I try and do pushups/planks and a bunch of other stuff in my hotel room!

It depends on where I’m going and what I’m doing. Usually I will bring gear for a run for most trips.

“I love the flavor, warmth, and comfort of coffee! “–ME TOO!

the thing about decaf is that not all the caf is removed. they can only remove so much. i have heard maybe like 75% or so? not sure but it’s no where near all of it so maybe it was just enough to tide you over :)

i have given up gluten, most soy, dairy, animal flesh, and most cooked food. if i want coffee, which is daily, i have it, happily :)

I have alot of workout dvds that I have basically memorized or I will do a bootcamp style workout with pushups, squats, lunges, etc. I try to get some activity in, and I usually bring my running shoes to take a quick run or power walk.

I didn’t watch RHONJ — I didn’t really like this season, it was kind of boring! I don’t like Danielle and Caroline/Jacqueline/Theresa were dull! I wonder if Kim G will become a housewife?

Looking forward to our dinner ‘n catch-up tonight, Megs! Remind me to ask you about stevia details. AND – ask your Dad about his days running the SME track (good alternative to the construction course!!). See you soon. Much Love, AK

I try to run when I am on vacation but I will also try to fit in time for things I can’t necessarily do at home like biking, hiking, volleyball etc.

Nice run despite the traffic, hurdles, and avoiding death. lol
Love the mountain of pudding. Isn’t working from home amazing… I don’t do it.. ever… but it would be amazing.

When I travel I ALWAYS bring my running gear, sometimes my P90X dvds, and my ipod… can’t leave home without the essentials, ya know.
