Talk of the Office

Hi friends! Happy Tuesday! :D   Have you all had a good day?

It sounds like most of you like to work out when you travel! Running and workout DVD’s are a popular choice, although some of you get adventurous and like to try “new” things when you’re in a new area! I’d love to try something NEW, but unfortunately Kansas doesn’t have that many options… and I don’t have much time! I did manage to squeeze in a 2.5 mile run after work, though– the weather really cooled down today, and it was WONDERFUL!

Ahhh… I wish we’d have this kinda luck on Saturday for the wedding. I have a feeling my bridesmaid dress may not handle sweat very well, and my hair certainly does NOT handle humidity well! (I have naturally curly hair, and it’s a TOTAL FRIZZ-MAGNET!) Please let Saturday be nice!! *crossing my fingers*

This morning I brought a green smoothie to work as breakfast:

And it quickly became the talk of the office! :D

My art director walked by my office, and noticed it instantly– it is, after all, VERY GREEN! We got to talking about the health benefits of green smoothies, and I told him they really do taste like the fruit you throw in there, not the greens! Sometimes I feel uncomfortable talking about “health stuff” at work, because I know my diet and health beliefs are a little “alternative” compared to my co-workers… especially out here in the Midwest! My office was always used to my “weird” eating habits, since I was already a vegetarian when I started working there, but since I’ve started eating more and more raw, I’m pretty sure they think I’m totally “out there!”  And that’s fine with me. I don’t feel the need to defend my diet to anyone.

However, I also feel the urge to “spread the health” sometimes! Anyone else feel that way??

My art director has been suffering from arthritis at a very young age, and he told me that his doctors have recommended that he increase his milk intake for extra calcium! *cue me CRINGING* I don’t want to get into a deep dairy discussion today, but let’s just say, I don’t believe that milk “does a body good.” No way. That’s just my opinion, and I’m sure some of you may disagree with me. But as I understand it, milk has so much protein compared calcium, that there’s actually NOT ENOUGH calcium in the milk to digest the protein that’s in it–> causing your body to leech calcium from your bones in order to digest the protein in that glass! Hence, how we LOSE calcium and are more likely to get osteoporosis. (that’s my cliffs notes version for ya!) ;)   [here's more on the subject, if you're interested]

An easy way to get DIGESTIBLE calcium (and protein)? Leafy greens!! And… the nutrients in greens are easier to absorb if you break down the cell walls in a blender first! See why I love green smoothies so much? (not to mention, they taste great!!) I’ll admit, I kinda feel like the “Sneaky Chef” every morning when I hide all those greens in my smoothieI really can’t taste the “green” at all!

After a long talk with my art director, and a few other co-workers who walked by, everyone in the office was suddenly interested in trying a green smoothie! Woo-hoo!

So guess what I’m gonna do tomorrow?

That’s right. I’m bringing the Vita-Mix to my office tomorrow morning!!!!

**Green smoothies for everyone! :D **

(honestly, I’m kinda scared that they won’t like it as much as I do… but, I’m going to try to make “beginner” green smoothies– less greens, more fruit– to start!) *gulp*

Have you guys ever tried to “spread the health” to you friends, family or co-workers? I make my friends and family try my “weird” creations ALL the time– but this is the first time I’ve done anything like this with my co-workers! Yikes!!!

The middle of my day is really not worth mentioning… if you don’t know what I ate for lunch, you don’t know me at all! ;)

Maybe if the Green Smoothie experiment goes well tomorrow, I should make some Cherry Chocolate Pudding for my co-workers next??

…on second thought, I’m not sure if I’m willing to share! ;)

Tonight, my mom and I had a “Mother-Daughter” date with my Aunt Kim and cousin, Molly (hey ladies!!– they’re two of FEW family members who actually know about my blog ;) ). When I’m in town, we almost always try to get together because we ALWAYS have stuff to catch up on! And as always, we had a total BLAST together!!!

Dinner was a Roasted Vegetable Salad with goat cheese:

It was a “seasonal” special–> the chef must have known I was coming into town, because this was EXACTLY what I wanted! ;)   Yum.

I’m  currently munching on some Mint Dark Chocolate squares as dessert– this girl likes her chocolate! (I know there are girls out there who don’t care for chocolate, and I just CAN’T relate!!)

Alright, I need to wrap up my computer time and get some sleep! I’ve got a BUSY day tomorrow–> my husband’s flying into town!! Yay!! I kinda like seeing his face, ya know?

Hope you all have a great night!

Reader Feeback: Have you ever brought “healthy treats” to work? Do you ever discuss your eating habits with co-workers? Like I said, I don’t do it often… but when someone obviously shows a spark of interest, I do like sharing what I know! (but, I also try to make sure I don’t sound like I’m “lecturing!”) After the green smoothies… I think a batch of raw macaroons might be in order! Can’t go wrong with those, right??

Oh gosh, I am ALWAYS “spreading the health” around! One of my co-workers asked me yesterday if she could pay me to make her lunch, so that she could eat more healthfully!

I love sharing my food and treats with my family and friends. My co workers are not as open, so I’m pretty quiet about my food at work. People always comment, but I kind of say something short and then that’s people. For some reason people aren’t receptive to it at work, so I just stay quiet.

My co-worker action nicknamed me the “nutrition goddess” because of all the “healthy” foods I bring into the office lol. I have actually shared my green monster with one before, and I am always bringing them healthy baked goods as an alternative to their starbucks/bakery baked goods!!

Good luck with your coworkers! That is great that they all asked you about it. I want to “spread the health” but to be honest I am nervous to do so. It has not gone over so well with my family — they tell me I am thin so why do I eat this way. Um, that makes no sense.

I’m curious to hear how it goes — but if you’re going to start making pudding for everyone, you need to send some to me in MN too! :)

I say bring on the green smoothies!! I did it at my summer camp this year. The kids LOVED them!! :) We called them “slime smoothies” and they thought that was awesome!

I have brought healthy banana bread to my studio. I sometimes bring a green smoothie, but I try not to freak them out too much. I usually stick to a veggie-infused sandwich, raw veggies and a fruit or something with lunch. So I’m eating healthy, but it doesn’t look *that* weird.

I introduced green smoothies to coworkers and was pleasantly surprised that everyone who tried it liked it. People were hesitant at first (the look of it make them nervous) but they were goos sports and gave it a try. I love trying to introduce people to new healthy things and most people are fairly receptive to it in my experience.

LOL you are too cute! Bringing the mixer to work!!

My co-workers are sooooo not “healthy” – I hate the small town I moved to :( ….they go to McDonalds for snack wrappers (cause they’re soooo much healthier)…and drive there when McD’s is only a 7 min-walk?

Oh well, who am I judge ?? I eat chocolate-chip ice cream regularly :)

Considering I am only one of two females at my work, all the guys think that I’m crazy and when I bake for them “it better not be any of that diet crap”…besides “I need to fatten up anyways.” Their so typical lol

Oh and the frizzy hair I can definitely relate to (but your hair looks gorgeous in every pic ive seen)..My hairs naturally really curly and the humidity is not my friend!
